Toni Collette loves complex roles

Australian actress Toni Collette is glad her acting career is not based on her normal looks because she prefers to play 'rich and complex' roles.

The 37-year-old who has played quirky roles such as Sheryl Hoover in 'Little Miss Sunshine' and Muriel Heslop in 'Muriel's Wedding' prefers meatier roles based on her ability as an actress rather than vapid roles which are given to beautiful female stars, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Estate of Anna Nichole Smith loses $300 mn court fight

The estate of Anna Nichole Smith is not entitled to the $300 million that the late reality TV star was claiming from the heir of her oil-tycoon ex-husband, a federal

appeals court in San Francisco ruled Friday.

The ruling follows a 10-year battle between the late Smith and the son of J. Howard Marshall, who was 89 when he married the 26-year-old model in 1994 a few years after they met at a strip club.

Smith had claimed that Marshall had promised her $300 million, and that his son, E. Pierce Marshall, used 'fraud and undue influence' to have her removed from the will.

Friday's ruling confirmed an earlier ruling by a Texas jury that the money was not meant as a gift for Smith.

Smith died in 2007 from a prescription drug overdose. She is survived by her three-year-old daughter.

The Member for Melbourne, Bronwyn Pike, spent the morning on the set of Orange - in Southbank - and said the movie is expected to be seen by hundreds of millions of people when it is released across the world next year.

"Orange is the biggest and longest film shoot of a Bollywood film in Australia and will employ more than 250 Victorians as cast and crew during filming," Ms Pike said.

Jesse James' mistress supports 'white power,' gives Nazi salute

Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, the woman who carried on an 11-month affair with Sandra Bullock's husband Jesse James, supports 'white power,' gives the Nazi salute and does pornographic shoots in her home, it has been claimed.

James has apologized to Bullock after his extra-martial affair became public, reports The Daily Telegraph.

And now, as per court papers connected to Michelle's divorce from and custody battle with Ronald Shane Modica, the model is portrayed as being bi-polar and using drugs, reports RadarOnline.com

In a declaration filed January 27 of this year, Modica says of his ex-wife: "It seems as the years go by Avery's mother slips more and more into stripping, pills, alcohol and performances she does online, pornography that she has brought into her home.

"There have been pornographic shoots there and live web cam pornographic broadcasts from her house."

Modica also revealed that Michelle uses their son's name, Avery, when she performs as her stripper.

Modical also charges about his ex wife: "There are coffins in the living room and child block magnets on the refrigerator that spell out White Power ... her other son Elijah is Jewish and she thinks it's funny that she makes the Nazi salute."

Alice in Wonderland is almost famous

The teenage Alice may have wooed the West but on Indian shores, her magic doesn't seem to be working. Or so, our film trade analysts would like us to believe.

After James Cameron's Avatar, expectations were high for Tim Burton's adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic. "Even Johnny Depp couldn't reel in his young fans who are too busy studying to go to the theatres," says Amod Mehra, a trade analyst, adding that the teenaged Alice in this version is also getting disapproving frowns from purists.

Amitabh Vardan, of PVR, however, insists that the opening was decent and the 3D shows were completely sold out. "The film should sustain till April 15," he asserts.

Utpal Acharya, of Inox, endorses the same fact, saying that despite competition from Bollywood films like Right Yaa Wrong, Alice In Wonderland has grossed over 50 per cent in its first weekend, with the 3D version faring even better, even though it is nowhere close to Avatar. Acharya points out that in India, animation films are meant only for kids and they do not bring in a mass audience.

"When Cars released, my wife took our child for the movie, but I gave it a miss because we didn't want to waste Rs 200," he points out.

'Negligent' NHS blamed for Jade Goody's death

Jade Goody's doctor has blamed "incompetent and negligent" staff at UK's National Health Services (NHS) for the reality TV star's death.

Ann Coxon, Harley Street consultant and former NHS doctor, blasted medics who, she said, failed to notice the Big Brother celebrity's tumour, even when it was the "size of a tangerine", which led to the 27-year-old's death from cervical cancer on Mother's Day last year.

"Her symptoms - which included heavy and irregular bleeding, pain and abnormal smear tests - can all indicate cancer. There should have been alarm bells ringing," The Sun quoted Dr Coxon as saying.

"But Jade didn't know that. She'd had abnormal smear tests since she was 16 so by the time she was 27 it didn't worry her much, because she didn't really know what it meant. It had never been properly explained to her.

"After she was diagnosed, she said to me, in that typically Jade way, 'I'm not daft. If I'd known it was to do with cancer, I'd have been checked out every three months'. Jade realised she had been let down. She simply said, 'Sometimes people make mistakes'.

"Jade's death was completely unnecessary and preventable. She died of neglect and of incompetence," Dr Coxon added.

Dr Coxon also said: "Jade's story must never be forgotten. She need not have died if the medical profession had got their act together in time."(ANI)

'Mad Men' characters to be honoured with Barbie doll versions

London, Mar 11 (ANI): It has emerged that the characters of dramatic television series 'Mad Men' are set to be honoured with Barbie and Ken doll versions by Mattel.

Don Draper, the advertising executive, and his wife Betty, along with Don's partner at the agency, Roger Sterling, and his former mistress, Joan Holloway, will all be made into dolls as part of a collectors' series for adults, reports the Telegraph.

Christina Henkricks, 34, who plays Joan, has already drawn comparisons with the classic American doll for her voluptuous figure.

The characters from the award-winning show, which follows the professional and personal lives of workers at a New York advertising agency in the 1960s, are notoriously scandal-prone, chain-smoking and drinking their way through a series of business problems and love affairs.

Their seedy lives are a sharp contrast to Barbie's clean image, and the dolls will be modelled more on the characters' looks than their actions.

The Mad Men dolls will come with period clothing accessories, but no martini glasses or cigarettes.

The new dolls will be priced just under 75 dollars and can be bought in doll shops or ordered online at amctv.com or barbiecollector.com. (ANI)

The order would mean the rap star and his superstar wife Beyonce would have to turn over private details of their finances.

The project is now reportedly set to go ahead without the star's investment. (ANI)

Rouass, 38, is quite intrigued by the story of Khaled, who hit the headlines for taking part in the hijacking of a flight from Rome to Athens in 1969.

"Was she a revolutionary fighter or was she a terrorist?" the Telegraph quoted Rouass, as saying.

Lindsay Lohan's mum backs her in "milkaholic" ad lawsuit

London, Mar 11 (ANI): Lindsay Lohan's mum Dina has jumped in to back her daughter's multi-million pound legal battle over an advert which allegedly used the actress' name and poked fun at her personal problems.

Lohan, 23, is seeking 66.7 million pounds in damages and compensation in connection with the promo for financial firm E-Trade, which depicted a baby girl called Lindsay as a boyfriend stealer and a "milkaholic".

The 'Mean Girls' star filed a lawsuit against the advert, which aired on U.S. TV during the Super Bowl last month, on March 8 at Nassau County Supreme Court.

The actress' lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, alleges company bosses used Lohan's "name and characterisation" without paying her or asking for her approval, thus violating her rights.

But chiefs at the advertising firm behind the commercial claim they chose the name Lindsay at random.

And now Dina has waded in to defend her daughter's decision to sue, insisting the advert reduced the actress to tears during the Super Bowl celebrations.

She claims the actress called her after the Super Bowl "extremely upset".

"She said, 'Mommy, help me. This is wrong. How can they do this?'" the Daily Star quoted her as telling The New York Post.

Dina is adamant the commercial was aimed at her daughter - insisting the name Lindsay has as much recognition as other single-word monikers, used by stars such as Madonna and Cher.

"They're little babies doing this, mocking another child who's just trying to survive Hollywood, basically," she said.

"I'm just basically glad I took a stand. I'm not going to let them do this to us anymore. Everyone knows Lindsay, like Cher or Madonna," she added. (ANI)

Betty White says she will, in fact, be heading to “Saturday Night Live” this season.

According to People, when the 88-year-old actress was asked if she was doing the NBC show at Elton John’s 18th annual Oscars viewing party on Sunday night, she answered, “Yes.”

“I don’t know why or how,” she said, “but it’s been wonderful.”

The actress reportedly did not offer up any details on when she might appear on the show or if she would serve as host.

A massive online push to get the former “Golden Girl” on the NBC comedy show appears to have helped. “The Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!” Facebook page has almost 500,000 fans.
